Disir Queen

by Talinthas

Recommended for games set during the 'Reign of the Dragon Overlords' time period.

Level: Around 10th-15th.
Time: Late Fifth Age, around the War of Souls.
Place: Somewhere near a large dragon. Not an overlord, but a dragonlord, preferably with spawn creating abilities. Yeah, the rules say only overlords get spawn, but I never liked or used that rule. It's your home campaign, do what you want, says I.

Hook:

People in the town have been falling sick over the past few months in large numbers. Fearing a plague, they have started to quarantine folks away, but the sickness is spreading. Even plants and animals are starting to die, leading some to think it is coming from the water. Recently, the strangeness level of this infliction has ramped up, as people are starting to disappear right as their sickness nears terminal level. Mystics haven't been able to determine what the cause is, but there have been mysterious dirt piles on the ground near where the missing victims used to live. Further Investigation shows that these are leading to tunnels that go deep into the ground.

Simultaneously, rumors of crazy monsters have started arriving from nearby towns, where the plague is slowly spreading. In the woods and wilderness areas, demonic looking beings have been ambushing travelers, and taking them away. The local Legion post has also noticed that the dragonlord has virtually disappeared, and has not been seen since the start of this plague outbreak. Citizens are terrified of what is happening.

What is actually happening:

The disir have invaded the area, and are infecting the water with a disease that primes the victims for eventual absorption into the collective. In a coup, the Disir Queen has infected the local dragonlord, and he has succumbed to the infection, becoming one of her thralls. People are being kidnapped to become dragonspawn to power her armies, but with a disir twist, as the genetic materials of the dragon, draconian, disir, and human captives blend. We're talking template madness here, with Sable-style spawn popping up all over. Think the end of Starcraft.
