SchallseaArticle written by Kranar Drogin, Joe Mashuga, AmbroSchallsea is a mostly human island located in Newsea, with the Straits of Schallsea separating the island from Abanasinia in the west. Schallsea is about two hundred miles long north to south, about eighty miles from east to west at its widest point, and shaped like a kidney. Some of Schallsea's many streams are the Singing Creek, the Pekun Stream, the Tilawa Brook, the Zephyr Brook, and Mannewa River. The Barren Hills take up much of the center of the island extending almost from one end of the island to the other end. The coastline is mostly inaccessible form the sea, especially in the south due to steep rises. The north slopes are gentler. The Qué-Nal and the Port of Schallsea use the few natural harbors. Schallsea has hot summers. During the winter, the moist air from the Straits of Schallsea brings moist air that causes heavy snows. These snows may isolate villages for up to two months at a time. Only during the harshest winters do the harbors freeze though. Pre CataclysmThe land that would become Schallsea was a hill-crested plateau (part of the Southern Darkwalls) on a flat plain between the Kharolis Mountains and the Khalkist Mountains. CataclysmSchallsea Island was formed following the Cataclysm when the Newsea flooded the lands that had dropped down around the island in the middle of Ansalon. Age of DespairIn 182 AC, the Qué-Nal immigrated to the island after being forced to leave Abanasinia by the Qué-Shu and Qué-Teh. The Wemitowuk helped them get through their first winter on the island and the Qué-Nal embraced their new home. The island was virtually unknown following the Cataclysm until a battle was fought on it during the War of the Lance between the Qué-Nal and the Blue Dragonarmies. The Qué-Nal were assisted by a Half-ogre shaman named Shirlinn. She used her magic to summon the very elements against the Dragon Highlord Kartilann and Khellendros. The Highlord was killed in the battle but Khellendros then killed Shirlinn and half of the Qué-Nal. Age of MortalsFollowing the Chaos War, Goldmoon came to the island and set up the Citadel of Light near the Silver Stair. There, she taught her Power of the heart to anyone that would be willing to learn. The Silver Stair is surrounded by a hedge maze that must be entered to reach the stair. During the War of Souls, the Citadel of Light was attacked by the Dragon Overlord Beryllinthranox, who sought a magical artifact possessed by Tasslehoff Burrfoot. Most of the Citadel of Light was destroyed, along with the hedge maze. Goldmoon's followers have been slowly rebuilding it following the war. Kender TalesOne source stated that the island is eight miles across at its widest point. This is an error. It is eighty miles across at its widest point.
